What The Duck

We've recently fallen in love with the web comic strip 'What The Duck' (WTD) and decided to bring in a new member to our family.

Patiently waiting for him to arrive in Singapore now...

The WTD comic strip basically revolves around the lives of several duck characters who are professional photographers, often making wry comments and observations that many pro and amateur photographers can relate to. Fans of the free web strip are able to support the author by purchasing various merchandise such as the cafepress T-shirts and the WTD plush toy of the main character, seen above.

Author Aaron Johnson also encourages fan-submitted artworks and photos of the main WTD character.

At the golf course. Love the little camera over his plush neck.

This is just the type of humour we love. Haha.

Visit the WTD Website if you haven't!

An Offer We Cannot Refuse

The mostly-male toys in Stuffed Toy Land are ardent fans of the Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather movie trilogy. We must have missed it when this plush product came out a few years back.

The severed horse head plush (pillow) is a spoof of the horse head put in the bed of a character in Godfather I, Woltz, a stubborn movie producer who was didn't understand the cost of going against the wishes of Don Corleone Senior. Woltz woke up one morning to find the bloody head of his prized horse next to him as a warning to heed Don Corleone's 'advice'.

Video clip of the famous Godfather scene

The toys have mixed feelings regarding this plush and whether it'll contribute to plush toy brutalities. Nonetheless, most of us agree though that the stuffed horse head plush is a humane, animal-friendly way to give a friendly warning to friends and family members to take you seriously. :D

Old Friend We Never Got to Know - Hungover Merlion

Meet 谎言 huang yen(literal translation 'A Lie'), a cute little Merlion soft toy that has has recently resurfaced in our household.

Huang yen looks a little dishevelled and hungover in this picture, after a night of partying and puking.

The Singapore Merlion was actually a marketing tool conceived by Mr Fraser Brunner for the logo of the Singapore Tourism Board several decades ago to.. sell some souvenirs (I guess Singapore really lacks  identifiable natural geographical icons). It has a lion's head and mermaid/fish's body and the most famous Merlion at the Merlion Park near One Fullerton, much loved by Japanese tourists,  pukes  sprouts water from its mouth.

Sheep With a Pearl Earring

Who's the fairest of them all? Of all these art parodies and Scarlett Johansson's interpretation of Johannes Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, we believe Shaun Sheep is the cutest. :)

Books for Kids & Stuffed Toy Lovers

The stuffed toy family has heard of the Prince Bear and Pauper Bear by Emily Lim a few years back, but it was only recently when we finally flipped through the book in a local book store. Neal Sharp's amazing illustrations will definitely touch the child in all of us who used to (or still does) wonder how our toys will behave if they were sentient. :) Read about the author's story here.

Prince Bear & Pauper Bear
Available at Kinokuniya

Pauper Bear, a teddy bear without a mouth, longs to be loved. Prince Bear is a proud bear who loves himself. When their paths take different turns, the two bears discover that things do not happen as they expect. In the process, the two teddy bears come to experience love and friendship with new perspectives.

The Tale of Rusty Horse

Rusty Horse, an old forgotten rocking horse, longs to be a favourite with everyone. When his wish is met by an old fairy, it sets him on a journey where he discovers that it is within his own power to obtain what truly matters to him.

Just Teddy

Just Teddy, a lonely teddy bear, tries hard to fit in with polar bears, pandas & penguins in a toy factory with funny-sad results. His quest leads him to a surprising discovery about himself.

Bunny Finds the Right Stuff

Bunny, a floppy rabbit with flat feet, thinks he is missing out when he notices that the other toys are better stuffed than he is. He searches for the right stuffing to fill himself up and makes a mess along the way. Grizzly, Dinosaur and Kangaroo wonder if they can help their friend find the stuff he is looking for.

Booze's Fashion Statement

Booze the Moose got this nice acrylic necklace from TopShop some time ago. It reminded him of his absent father (male moose are polygamous) and the majestic antlers he had.

He hopes one day his very own antlers will grow to be as awe-inspiring as his dad's and cease being used by stuffed toys in the family to hang (and dry) their clothes.

He's also an active moose rights campaigner, and suggests animal bust collectors to consider alternative wall decorations instead.

Road Trip to Msia

The new Nici bear 'Heartless' went on a road trip over the weekend to Malaysia.

All tucked and ready to go in Michi's little bag. :) It's Heartless's first road trip.

So many toll booths on the way to Malacca from Singapore.. Zzz... Unfortunately, everyone was so tired by the time we reached Malacca that we forgot to take some photos for Heartless..

After resting for the night in Malacca, we made our way to Penang. Heartless has lost much of his natural bear tracking abilities since he's been domesticated and was quite unable to figure out where he was. Thank goodness for the GPS.

Nearing destination.. Palms and coconuts! Heartless loved the tropical greenery and landforms visible along the highway.

Finally, the Penang bridge! But Heartless fell asleep several times while waiting to get across during the evening peak period...

By the time Heartless and gang reached Penang it was rather late. So he went for a couple of drinks at Gurney Drive.

And a few drinks later....

The following morning, Heartless went to visit the beaches and farms along the Northern and Western coast of Penang.

Durian~

Rambutans

Heartless, a true blue city kid felt in awe of the variety of tropical fruits available on the small penang island.

Coconuts!

Up Penang Hill, with his snug scarf on.
